Back to School Supplies for Fifth Grade
2008-2009
Dear Parents:
We
are looking forward to having your child in fifth grade next year. To make it
easy to organize notes, classwork, and homework, we would like him or her to
bring the following on the first day of school:
| c |
Three 1" three ring binders (for Science, Social Studies and Math) |
c |
One 1/2" binder (for Language Arts) |
c |
One package of 5 notebook dividers |
c |
A writer's notebook (any kind of writing journal or notebook at least 5 x 7) |
c |
A pencil BAG (with a zipper) to store crayons, glue, colored pencils, etc. |
c |
A pack of crayons (no more than 24 pack) |
c |
A pack of colored pencils (12 pack) |
c |
A pack of markers if they prefer to use them. |
c |
A glue stick |
c |
A pack of Self-Stick Removable Notes (Sticky notes)-any color. |
c |
Pencils-sharpened if possible. |
c |
A silent pencil sharpener |
c |
A highlighter |
Please keep in mind that your child will be switching for two of the following classes: science, math, social studies, so they will be carrying their binders and books with them to the other two rooms. We do emphasize organizational skills and expect students to keep neat and organized binders at all times.
All students are expected to know addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts through 12, by the first day of school. Please drill and practice during the summer.
Also, students will be doing a lot of reading and writing in fifth grade. We encourage you to read everyday and to keep a daily journal or write some stories to work towards improving your writing skills.
We hope this information will help you plan for the beginning of the school year.
Sincerely,
The Fifth Grade Team
